This film presentation is part of a new series “Babelsberg statt Hollywood” to celebrate 80 years of the DDR production company DEFA. This classic DDR film by Konrad Wolf tells the story of young Rita, who returns to her home village after a breakdown and begins a love affair with the chemical technician Manfred. While Rita begins an active life of work and studies, Manfred becomes increasingly skeptical of the DDR Regime’s political reality and escapes to the west, that is, Berlin.
